As we rapidly approach the conclusion of 2018, I have begun thinking about where the year has gone, how quickly it has passed and what I did or did not accomplish. Each December typically finds me thinking about holidays, gifts, parties and friends, as well as the closing out of another business year…a time to look back on the year we are leaving and look forward to the next.

While reflecting on the past year, I would like to suggest that all of us take time to remember and to give thanks for the good things that did happen in 2018…to build on all of the positive accomplishments and to carry that positive momentum into 2019.

Take time to think about what you would like to do different in 2019. Now is a very good time to look at the lessons learned from any missteps we might have made and apply those lessons learned to create opportunity. The end of the year is a good time to review and update the elements of your strategic and business plan; set your goals for the New Year and develop and commit to an action plan to achieve the goals. If you use a strategic thinking approach to your planning, you will not wait to plan your integrated marketing communications activities, since it usually takes at least thirty days to develop a plan. If you wait to get started, it may be February or March before the plan is in action and you will have lost a couple months of opportunities.

Set aside some time to rejuvenate, re-energize and re-focus for the new business year. Start the New Year with an arsenal filled with energy, strategic thinking and planning and a clear vision of what and where you want your business to go.

Most of all, find passion about what you love to do. Your passion will help you remain motivated and will foster creativity.
