RECOMMENDED READING
May 2017

Recently in an interview with a potential intern I was asked what books I would recommend reading to help in their overall business pursuit. Wow, hard question. So many books I would recommend. Here are a few:

SPRINGTIME
April 2017

This month signaled the beginning of spring, the vernal equinox, the start of the baseball season and the point which our dazzling Florida winter starts its gradual transition from twinkly cool nights into a soft, endless summer. I always think of this as a very young time of year. Maybe that’s why my mind is on starting over and new beginnings.

THIS CRAZY WORLD WE LIVE IN
April 2017

It's hard to believe that we now live in a world where we worry about terrorist attacks at malls, grocery stores, festivals and churches - and just about everywhere else we go. We have all become wary of large group gatherings, in particular, because many of them seem prime for some sort of attack. Meetings and conventions, a major part of my clients businesses, are particularly vulnerable, and this makes many prospective participants very fearful.

WHY I LOVE OPENING DAY OF BASEBALL
April 2017

At the end of every Super Bowl the clock starts on the countdown to the day that pitchers and catchers report to spring training camp; a subtle reminder that our spring reprieve begins in a few short weeks. The commencement of each new baseball season is celebrated by fans all over the country as our respective teams begin another six and a half month journey to the World Series. But, “why?” you ask.

HANDWRITTEN NOTES
March 2017

On a recent trip to Los Angeles, the flight attendant surprised me by handing me a folded paper napkin. Odd, I thought, as I had not made any requests. Simple instructions providing details regarding my connecting flight had been handwritten on it, and it was signed legibly. I could not help but be both appreciative and duly impressed. You see, I have always been a big believer in hand written, personal, notes, and I use the technique often.

ARE YOU COMING DOWN WITH MARCH MADNESS?
March 2017

Coming down with March Madness before the Big Dance may sound like an excuse to skip prom, but it actually describes our nationwide obsession with the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. This 68-team basketball bonanza has been known to crown a Cinderella or two, produce at least one shining moment a year, and turn millions of Americans into illegal gamblers. It’s that good. And this year, in Orlando, where I live, my Florida State Seminoles are part of the dance; doesn’t get better than that!

WHY DO WE LOVE HOTELS?
March 2017

Why do we love hotels? Personally I have many reasons, the least of which is that I own an advertising agency that revolves around travel and destinations - hotels. I was at the Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club this past Monday and Tuesday on business, but wished I was on vacation. Oh my, everything about the destination was perfect – the weather, the soothing gulf breeze, the sun, the beach, my door wide open on the balcony overlooking the coast. I just wanted to play and not work.

FOCUS ON EXISTING CUSTOMERS
February 2017

DO YOU LOVE WHAT YOU DO?
February 2017

Since February tends to be the month of LOVE, I thought I’d spend a few moments talking about the workplace.

WHY 28 DAYS IN FEBRUARY?
February, 2017

Thirty days hath September
April, June, and November
All the rest have 31
Except for February…

Which got the short stick because it's cold and no one likes it, right? Well, something to that effect.
